April 14 and April 15, 2018 - Sugar & Scribe - La Jolla, California

Visited on April 14, 2018 with Carol and Mike Thompson and the Thompson-Hollman Wedding Party.  What a lovely café…perfect fit for a beach town.  I just love it!

I ordered the Traditional Breakfast…great scrambled eggs, good tasting fried potato chunks…crispy bacon and rye toast.  The rye toast was a big thick piece of homemade rye bread.

It isn't often that I return to the same restaurant two days in succession...but I returned on April 15, 2018 with niece Julie Middelburg for breakfast on April 15, 2018.

I ordered the Traditional Breakfast.  Julie ordered the Lemon Curd Pancakes with Orange Cardamom Syrup and Berries.  We shared both breakfasts.  The Traditional Breakfast was as delicious as it was on Saturday.

I really liked the taste of Lemon Curd Pancake.  Yes, the dough tasted just like lemon curd.  The pancake perfectly cooked with a little crispy on the edges.  I like my pancakes like that.

After we bought snacks for our trips back home…I bought a peanut butter cookie…a mini- Orange Creamsycle cupcake…and a huge Almond Croissant.  Their bakery goods are delicious. I should also mention that this bakery also made the Thompson-Hollman wedding cake for the reception on Friday, April 13, 2018.

April 14, 2018 - The Spot - La Jolla, California

I visited with my niece, Julie Middelburg on April 14, 2018.   I started with a Bloody Mary…and Julie ordered a Arnold Palmer.

I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger – ½  pound burger topped with bacon strips, lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, choice of cheese (mine was cheddar but I really didn’t realize it was my choice or I would have ordered Swiss) and their homemade 1000 Island Dressing. This was  a good burger.  It was served with Beer-battered Fries.

Julie ordered the Adult Mac and Cheese and small salad.

April 13, 2018 - Hennessey's Tavern - La Jolla, California

I was up early.  Carol Thompson's cousin Carol Jones and Susan Dalton are staying in the same motel as I am.  Carol Thompson texted all of us so Carol J., Susan and I went to breakfast together.

I ordered the  Two Eggs (scrambled), bacon (crispy), home style potatoes and toast (rye bread).  I really thought my breakfast was good…lots of scrambled eggs…bacon just the way I like it..and the rye bread was perfect.  I wasn’t too crazy with the sauce on the  potatoes but they were still good.

Carol and Sue both ordered The Highlander – Home style potatoes topped with two eggs any style, ranchero sauce, melted jack and cheddar cheeses with smoked sausage, bacon, ham and choice of toast or tortilla.

April 12, 2018 - Puesto - LaJolla, California

I went to dinner with former co-worker and friend, Peggi Sandoval Decker . We each ordered a margarita…then two…while we munched on our chips and salsa which were really great!  I though the salsa started out kind of sweet in your mouth and ended up with a kick!

Peggi ordered three tacos – carnitas (traditionally braised pork,  classic guacamole and tomatillo fresco),  lobster and filet mignon (crispy melted cheese, avocado, spicy pistachio Serrano).  I ordered three tacos – the taco of the month:  Chile relleno, lobster (black beans, crispy onions, avocado, crème de cilantro, jalapeno pico) and filet mignon.  I loved the taste of all three of my tacos…but I must say the Filet was really, really good! They were street tacos served on blue corn small tortillas.

Dessert we shared an Aztec Gold – churro caramel corn, horchata gelato and chocolate almond mousse.  The mousse had the gelato center…and all of that was coated with the churro caramel corn. Delicious!

April 12, 2018 - Sobe's - El Centro, California

I was by myself on my way to LaJolla, California for the Caren Thompson – Jeffery Hollman wedding.  I stopped for lunch.

The chips and salsa that started off the meal were really good.

I ordered the Dinner Combo – 1 shredded beef taco, 1  bean tostada and 1 cheese enchilada with some great beans…and rice.  The taco shell was very crisp..and filled with lots of meat, lettuce…and lots of shredded cheese on top.  I used some of the salsa from the chips I was served before my meal arrived on my taco.  Perfect!

The bean toastada was also a very crisp tortilla covered with refried beans and lettuce.  The enchilada was stuffed with cheese…and covered in a sauce that had a kick to it.

It just had that Mexico taste…and I love that taste.

April 3, 2018 - Cracker & Co. Cafe - Mesa, Arizona

I visited this cafe for breakfast with relatives, Jamie Hayes Weintraub and Vance Islander.  .  I ordered the Cinnamon Roll Pancake.  Mine was served with eggs…I chose scrambled…and crispy bacon.
It looked just like a big cinnamon roll only spread out because of the pancake look.  It was delicious.  I have tried some at other restaurants but none have come close to matching this.

Vance ordered the Chocolate Chip Pancake…and loved it.

Jamie ordered the Corned Beef Hash.  She also thought hers was very good.
