June 12, 2021 - Keegan's Grill - Chandler, Arizona

I visited with Cathy Lindholm, Tor Thorsen, Eileen and Jim Utter after our Saturday morning bridge game in Sun Lakes.

Cathy ordered the Baked Four Onion Soup – Jarlsberg Cheese, fresh croutons, pecorino romano.

Jim – Artisan French Dip – roast beef on toasted French roll, homemade au jus and atomic horseradish sour cream.

Eileen – Calihan Cobb salad (small portion which was huge.) grilled tenderloin , chicken, red onion, avaocado, tomato, egg, gorgonzola, bacon tossed with blue cheese dressing.  (I want to return and order this salad.  It looked fresh and delicious.)

Tor – Son MOAB – burger with double Pepperjack cheese, Cajun caramelized onions, Dijon ailoi, lettuce, tomato, pickle on an onion knot bun.

I ordered the Taproom Steak Sandwich – open face, char crusted tenderloin medallion, caper garlic baguette, tomatoes with gorganzola sauce.  The meat was grilled perfectly…it was tender and very tasty.  I loved it…I also loved the tomatoes with sauce.  It added a little zing to the steak.  I would order this again…if I only lived closer I would visit on a Saturday night for dinner when I was hungry for a steak.  Actually, I would order any of the meals that each of ordered again.

June 19, 2021 - Stone & Vine Urban Italian - Chandler, Arizona

Cathy Lindholm, Tor Thorsen and I had a late lunch here after playing bridge at Sun Lakes.

Cathy chose the Carbonara with chicken special…and Tor and I split one of the specials a 20 oz. steak with caramelized onion in a pinot  noir   sauce…grilled asparagus…and these baked season potato chunks…the meat was tender and  delicious. We were happy that we shared. We each took a box home with us…so there were four meals there.  Tor also ordered the Creamy Corn Chowder…and it was very tasty.

June 9, 2021 - Nunthaporn Thai Cuisine - Mesa, Arizona

My fellow usher and friend, Cindi and I went to downtown Mesa because we had to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background check before we are able to usher again at the Mesa Arts Cents.  We decided to have lunch at the Thai restaurant because we have never eaten there before now and we have heard for a long time about how good it is. (And…it is!)

Cindi ordered the Pad Thai – stir fried Thai noodles with choice of protein…Cindi chose shrimp, egg, minced red onions, sweet radishes, Chinese chive, beans sprouts in old style Pad Thai sauce. (It looked delicious)

I chose the Masaman Curry – moderately spiced with a sweet flavor but the tastes of the spices dominate.  It also had a sour taste from the tamarind.  The curry sauce was slowly cooked in coconut milk with your choice of protein…I also chose shrimp…potatoes and roasted peanuts.  They served brown rice with my curry…and it was fabulous…I ate everything but some of the potatoes which were pretty darn hard.

June 4, 2021 - Red Mountain Bar & Grill - Mesa, Arizona

I wanted to try the Friday Fish Fry.  I had read about it in the 2019 Phoenix Magazine.  Well…the menu didn’t look like anything written in the Phoenix Magazine.  But I ordered the Fish Fry…3 pieces…cod…lightly battered which I like…and it was served with fries and cole slaw…a glass of Blue Moon beer. Everything was just fine but I was anticipating so much more.

Fish and Chips

Cole Slaw

I asked my wait staff about it…”big chunks of Mahi and shrimp the size of trailer hitches in a tempura batter, over rustic home-made potato chips.”   They were not serving that at this time.  The service was excellent…but I did have to ask for tartar sauce.  I would have like my fries a little more crisp.

The article also referred to their “signature sandwich of Binghamton, New York…”  the Spiedies.

I guess I was too late…I should have checked the menu online before I went there.
