February 22, 2018 - Arrogant Butcher - Phoenix, Arizona

Sandy Wilts and I had an appointment at Chase Field for D-Back tickets for the upcoming season.  We decided to take the Light Rail...go early...and have lunch at the Arrogant Butcher.

Sandy ordered the Roasted Chicken Salad – Fuji apples, red grapes, smoked almonds, Havarti cheese and crispy bacon.  We tried to identify what the taste was in the chicken salad.  We finally tasted the Havarti cheese and it had a smoky taste…and we think that is what gave the sandwich that wonderful taste.

I ordered the AB Cheeseburger – grilled onion, Prairie Breeze Cheddar, pickle. I thought my bun was absolutely wonderful.  It was light and fluffy…no real doughy taste with the burger,

My burger had a 1000 Island type sauce with some heat but it wasn’t overpowering…just a small kick that made the burger taste great!

Both of us chose fries to be served with our sandwiches.

We thought everything was delicious.

The restaurant was packed when we arrived.  We were seated almost immediately.  Our orders were place…and arrived in a very timely manner.  Our waiter was attentive.  He answered all of our questions, brought us items that wanted and was friendly…even visited with us.  I really enjoyed my whole experience.

February 16, 2018 - First Watch - Gilbert, Arizona

.
I visited after Judson’s first hockey game in the President’s Day Hockey Tournament at AZ Ice in Gilbert..  I went to breakfast with the team and parents.   I ordered the Ham and Gruyere Omelet with potatoes and toast….and coffee.  My breakfast was perfect.  The omelet was fluffy and was filled with a generous portion of  smoked ham, cheese and fresh herbs.  The entrée was served with two pieces of multi-grain type of toast...and a tiny dish of strawberry jam.  It was delicious.  The potatoes was tiny cubes and pieces of potatoes…cooked and spiced just right.  I thought the meal was wonderful.  The wait staff was efficient…and the orders came out in a very timely manner.

February 8, 2018 - Board & Batten - Mesa, Arizona

My friend Carol Thompson and I drove to North Scottsdale for our doctor appointments.  We decided to drive back to the Mesa area for lunch as it wa getting later in the afternoon and we didn't want to be caught in the beginnings of the rush hour traffic.

Since I have never taken Carol to the Bistro Ala Mode we decided that we would go there. Well, the name of the restaurant has changed to Board & Batten.  It is still located on the Stonebridge Manor grounds but is no longer in the Manor.

Brand new building…lots of tables..and a beautiful patio where we sat almost the rest of the afternoon.  Carol ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad  Croissant.  It looked delicious.  I had eaten this sandwich several times before when the Bistro ala Mode was located in the Manor.

When you look at all the pictures I have posted you will see that each time we were served I was so excited I would forget to take a picture before we started tasting.  That pretty much describes me and food.

Shepherd's Pie

I ordered the Shepherd’s Pie – house ground tenderloin, carrots, onions, peas all covered on top with mashed potatoes.  New item…I loved it.  We also enjoyed iced raspberry and jasmine tea.  Dessert:  Forks around for a Lemon Cake with Raspberry drizzle served with three beautiful puffs of raspberry cream.  Yummy!

Our wait staff was just so friendly, helpful and efficient!  I must brag that the day was sunny, still and beautiful...perfect afternoon...what a lovely setting.

February 8, 2018 - Snooze, An A.M. Eatery - Gilbert, Arizona

This morning I had an early appointment in the downtown Gilbert area for some imaging.  When I arrived the firetruck and other emergency vehicles were out front.   I was asked to call and re-schedule my appointment.

I decided to look for this restaurant...and have a nice leisurely breakfast before driving to the Thompson Residence.  I found it...and I tried it...and it was delicious.  I love pancakes so I started with that as this will not be my only visit.

Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes

I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes…delicious…buttermilk pancakes with caramelized pineapple chunks, housemade vanilla crème anglaise and cinnamon butter.

The interesting thing when eating the pancakes is that there is no syrup…and the vanilla cream sauce acts quite well as the liquid ingredients to use when eating the fluffy, light pancakes.  I enjoyed my meal.

Prices:  Mid- Range - My pancakes were $8.75...and for an additional charge you may add eggs, meats, etc.

February 1, 2018 - Worth Takeaway - Mesa, Arizona

I visited today with Mary-Jane Horni for breakfast while we waited for our neighbor.

Mary-Jane ordered the chicken salad sandwich…she did like all the large chunks of apples, carrots, etc. on her sandwich.  I thought what was weird was the large pieces of chicken..but the bread looked good.  She said that it was.  It is baked  locally Proof Bread.

I ordered the Cuban Sandwich..and I hated it…so much could have been done with it…but they gave me stripped pork on a Ciabatta roll…some type of spread…but I didn’t  even take the time to see because I wasn’t interested.  I didn't like the taste of the pork.  I also ordered some house made sea salt potato chips.

“Breakfast served all day”…but they didn’t have anything that I wanted…no normal breakfast.

The service was very nice…but I didn’t like the seating area.

Won’t be returning.
